Tea and Theology

#692 The sound of #rainonthetent when camping brings mixed feelings of wonder at being #closertonature as well as #apprehension that everything will stay dry! Ultimately it’s part of that experience of the #greatoutdoors which draws me closer to #god

New home

#664 The Lord is my #light, my light and #salvation. In God I #trust, in God I trust.

Image of God

#557 This week I’ve had a number of #conversationsaboutGod – quite normal in a theological college – and I’ve been struck by our inability to #express the #natureofGod in a way which fully symbolises God. This photograph is a starting point with the #cross, #light and #tabernacle all as different expressions of God’s presence here with us, but it doesn’t seem quite enough. For anyone reading this, I would like to invite you to photograph something which symbolises God for you and link it to this post with an explanation. I’m really interested in how different people understand God and would love to hear from you! Thank you in advance!

Holy Smoke…

#548 “Let my prayer rise before you as #incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly; hear my voice when I cry to you. Set a watch before my mouth, O Lord, and guard the door of my lips;
Let my prayer rise before you as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Let not my heart incline to any evil thing; let me not be occupied in wickedness with evildoers.
But my eyes are turned to you Lord God; in you I take refuge; do not leave me defenceless.
Let my prayer rise before you as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” #psalm141:1-8
Whatever #preoccupies our hearts this evening, take a moments #refuge in the Lord…

An empty disposable coffee cup

#547 “But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.” #2corinthians4v7 This evening the clay jars were likened to a disposable coffee cup, with the reassurance that it’s alright for the cup to be empty as God fills it up!  What’s inside is our treasure from God – how beautiful is that! We also had the pleasure of Bishop Helen-Ann Hartley presiding at our community Eucharist – such a blessing!

If God were an item in the bedroom…

#542…Not literally of course! But if you were asked to liken your understanding of #God to an item in the #bedroom what would it be? Perhaps it would be different depending on what is going on for you at that particular time. For me God is represented in my duvet; it surrounds me, keeps me #safe, #comfortable and warm, and is always there to help me to find #peace as I #recharge my batteries after a long day.
