#64 There is something quite stark, empty and lonely about #bereavement. Many people at college are feeling bereaved at the loss of something of an iconic old beech tree. Walking alongside those who are bereaved is an incredible privilege as people can be truly beautiful when they bravely allow themselves to open up and let the rawness of their loss show. #praying for all who are #bereaved that they will be #comforted and that they will #neverwalkalone.

#63 What do you do with that #lightbulb moment? Or what about when you understand something and others do not? What about when you know about something that those around you do not? Do you help them to shed some light, and build their own knowledge? Or do you speak with authority, excluding others? Paul asked to speak with the people when his eyes had been opened and he had met with God #acts21v37to22v21. He implored that they be followers of Jesus, and tried to share his experiences and knowledge with them, with both authority and humility. #eveningprayer #helpshedlight (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

#62 Would you ever take time to lie under a tree? What do you think you would see? How many others might have done the same before you? Would they have seen the same? There is something #timeless about a #chestnuttree year on year it produces chestnuts that children love to play with and; such solid trees see so much life pass them by. How much of our life habits are passed down by others? Is #tradition such a bad thing? Can we always find better ways of doing things? (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

#61 It can be quite upsetting when someone says something hurtful. It can take away your confidence or make you feel quite vulnerable. Words are powerful indeed and we so often underestimate their potential when they are used positively or negatively. A kind word can really pick someone up, just like an unkind word can reduce them to tears. These days our online communication can have just as much of an impact as our verbal communication…“Honour and dishonour come from speaking,
and the tongue of mortals may be their downfall.” #ecclesiasticus4v29to6v1 #morningprayer This has really made me think about what I do and do not say! #saysomethinglovely

#60 #wisdom is…knowing when to speak and when to listen. It is knowing when to act and when to step back. Wisdom encourages us to think first and speak later. Wisdom leads us to use words of kindness over harmfulness, to embrace rather than push away, to seek to challenge different opinions rather than simply win the argument. Today I #pray that world leaders will seek out wisdom each morning, in every decision they make, and that they will be filled with joy by it. #ecclesiasticus4v11to28 #morningprayer

#59 A few weeks ago I asked “What is church?” Today I was asked to draw my own ideas! This is meant to represent people united in God’s love reaching out to their communities. Today I #pray churches will feel empowered to serve their communities.

#58 Who is God? Random question perhaps. Nonetheless something that I thought about yesterday as I got to grips with saying the daily offices corporately and was prompted to think about why I am at theological college. Ultimately it’s to know God better and to be his agent. #godwithskinon Who is God to you? How do you meet with Him? (at Ripon College Cuddesdon)

#57 #Deconstruction was the theme for the first full day of my theological training…both the deconstruction of self as we think about #formation, but also destruction of a 350 year old tree on the site of the college and seen many ordinands pass by. “Where the Lord closes a door somewhere he opens a window!”

#56 #newbeginnings – My first day at theological college is finally here! New beginnings always come with a mixed set of emotions: nerves, excitement and disbelief are just some of the things that I have been feeling today. Yet I also find it an immense privilege to have the opportunity to study about, and eventually minister to and serve God’s people. #humbling indeed! #prayers for all those starting university, or facing other new starts this week.
